About Image Metadata / EXIF Viewer
Read the EXIF metadata embedded in a photo — camera make and model, exposure settings, date taken, and GPS location if present — directly in your browser. Nothing is uploaded; the file's bytes are read and parsed locally, the same way every other tool on this page works.
EXIF is a JPEG convention, so this tool reads metadata from JPEG files. PNG and WebP images can technically carry it too, but cameras and phones essentially never write it into those formats, so JPEG is the case that matters in practice. Many apps and messaging services also strip EXIF data automatically before sharing — if a photo shows no metadata, that's usually why.
Frequently asked questions
Do my images get uploaded anywhere?+
No — the file's bytes are read and parsed entirely in your browser. Your image is never sent to a server.
Why does my photo show no metadata?+
Many apps, messaging services, and social media sites strip EXIF data automatically before sharing or uploading a photo — this is very common and usually the reason, not a problem with this tool.
Does this work for PNG and WebP images?+
EXIF is a JPEG convention. PNG and WebP can technically carry it, but cameras and phones essentially never write it into those formats, so this tool reads metadata from JPEG files — a PNG or WebP will correctly show no data rather than a fabricated result.
Can I see where a photo was taken?+
If the photo has embedded GPS coordinates, they’re shown here along with a link to view the location on a map. Not every photo has this — it depends on whether location services were enabled when it was taken, and whether it survived any later stripping.
Does this tool change or remove metadata from my file?+
No — this is a read-only viewer. It doesn't modify your file in any way or offer a download; it only displays what's already embedded in it.
Is this tool free?+
Yes, completely free with no sign-up.
